A

ALGOL:  A medium sized yellow star located within the outermost frontier of the Arcadian Empire. It has seven planets, one of which, Vognar, is inhabited.  It is the very last star system required for the Arcadians to complete their galactic empire.

ANDRUNN, LADY:  Leader of one of Vognar’s most powerful houses. She sits on the Pantheon.

AQUILO, MARS:  Captain of the I.A.E. Heracles.

ARCADIA:  Capital planet of the Arcadian Empire. 

ARCADIAN EMPIRE:  A vast, benevolent empire that spans nearly the entire galaxy. Since it has united the galaxy through peaceful means, its Pax Arcadiana, many refer to it as the Great Empire.

ARCADIAN MILITARY:  The Arcadian military has two branches, a space navy (the Etherforce) and an army (the Legion).

DUTY BELT:  Worn by all members of the Arcadian military, the duty belt is a sleek utility belt studded with an assortment of compact, hi-tech devices.  These devices easily click in and out of place to allow for quick deployment and storage.  Some of the devices included in the basic duty belt configuration are: a standard issue energy weapon, medical kit, emergency rations dispenser/water synthesizer, emergency power supply, telescopic viewer/recorder, torchlight, scanner accessories for the gauntlet, and a general tool kit.  Various mission-specific configurations are also available.

ERIK:  leader of a mysterious group of rebels opposed to Vognar joining the Arcadian Empire.

ETHER:  Arcadian term for space, derived from the ancient belief in an elemental medium called the Ether.  Though science long ago disproved the existence of the Ether, the Arcadians have adopted its use as a poetic expression for the vacuum of space.  They still employ “space” and “vacuum” in their scientific language, but “Ether” is considered more artistic and romantic, much like calling saltwater the ocean or the sea.  

ETHERFORCE:  Branch of Arcadia’s armed forces designated for space (ether) warfare.

ETHERNAUT: The lowest three enlisted rates in the Imperial Arcadian Etherforce (Ethernaut Recruit, Ethernaut Apprentice, Ethernaut).  Civilian usage often ascribes it to anyone serving in the Etherforce. 

ETHERSHIP:  Arcadian military spacecraft capable of interstellar flight through the use of subether (hyperspace) technology.

GAND:  Venris’ brother. 

GARM:  A renegade Valgardian and member of the rebellion.

GAUNTLET:  A sophisticated computer device worn on the forearm of Arcadian military personnel. All rates and ranks in the Etherforce wear a guantlet, while only officers of flag rank wear one in the Legion.

HERACLES, I.A.E:  The Etherforce’s flagship. It is an ethership of the Olympian class. 

HIGH HOUSE OF VOGNAR:  The most powerful Vognarian house.

I.A.E.:  Imperial Arcadian Ethership. Designation given to Arcadian Etherships.  It is also the abbreviation for the Imperial Arcadian Etherforce.

I.A.L.:  Abbreviation for the Imperial Arcadian Legion.

MARA:  A prominent member of the rebellion, Mara is Erik’s protégé.

PANTHEON:  The governing body of the planet Vognar. Headed by Lord Orlin, it is comprised of the most powerful Vognarian houses.

PAX ARCADIANA:  (Arcadian Peace) Term applied to the state of galactic harmony and stability brought about by the Arcadian Empire’s peaceful and diplomatic expansion.

SHIP’S ARCHON: Etherforce legal advisor serving aboard an ethership.  The Ship’s Archon acts as a personal legal advisor to the ship’s captain, and performs as prosecutor for any shipboard court-martials.

SKOL:  Venris’ most trusted general.

S.P.Q.A.:  Latin acronym for “The Senate and the People of Arcadia.”  It appears as an inscription on the standards of the Arcadian Legion.  It signifies that the Legion marches in the name of the Senate and the People of Arcadia.
