Mark (AKA, even if only in his mind, Markneto) is a lifelong fan of science fiction. Star Trek, Buck Rogers, Doctor Who, the original Battlestar Galactica, and many, many more -- he loves them all. At the age of nine Mark's life came into sharp focus when in 1977 he saw Star Wars for the first time. The moment Darth Vader stepped through that smoldering hatch, Mark knew he had to somehow, someday find a way to tell his own stories of other worlds and fantastic characters. In fact, he came up with the concept for The Devil's Planet while still in elementary school. Unfortunately that clarity of purpose would be muddied and distorted for the next few decades. In middle school, as the 80's dawned, thuggish bullies relentlessly harassed Mark due to his enthusiasm for science fiction (Woe be it to him who dares to wear a Tron t-shirt to school). Add the death of his mother to the mix and you have one frightened, angry, and confused kid on your hands. For quite some time afterwards Mark attempted to pass himself off as a some sort of punk rocker. But, however much he sincerely liked the Clash and Social Distortion, that identity never felt as real or comfortable as the one true original: that of the absolute and total Sci-Fi geek. Now, fully embracing his geek heritage, and with the help of his friends, Mark is finally fulfilling his enduring dream of storytelling and world building.
